SOAP DESIGN RULES:
These bars are customizable, however, there are some limitations! For designing, I highly recommend communicating via Discord (https://discord.gg/r5vt78QDrx), as it would be much quicker and accessible for me. We will talk about the inspiration behind your ideal loaf, the scent profile, and possible colors.
If the design you have in mind is not possible to make in cold process soap making, your money will be refunded.
Typical things I can't do in most cases for a custom
- Bakery/vanilla fragrance and all/mostly pastel colors (vanilla can HEAVILY discolor soap to damn near black). There's other non-bakery fragrances that use vanilla and will also discolor but not as heavy, I can probably work around those.
- Floral fragrance oils and a fine detailed swirl design (some floral fragrance oils can make the soap firm up much faster than usual, making it impossible to do intricate designs).
Things I WILL NOT do for a custom
- Change my formula in any way
- Add frosting
- Use a different loaf mold
- Add too many toppers & embeds
- Buy expensive molds for toppers or embeds. Eventually I will get a 3D printer and be able to make my own molds so this wont be a problem and will allow customers to have broader design options.
- Buy an expensive fragrance oil. I'm willing to place an order if I don't have your desired fragrance on hand, but if the only place that carries the fragrance is out of my budget range, i will have to decline.
These soaps will take about 5 weeks to complete, from purchase to shipping.
Steps:
- Purchase
- Design & Approval
- Soapmaking
- Curing (4 weeks) & Quality Testing
- Packaging & Shipping
Quality testing is NOT for cosmetic things (design, fragrance, or color turn out). Quality testing is making sure that the soap actually turned into soap. Soap making is a science and sometimes things go wonky even if I think I'm doing everything right.
Here's a list of things that could go wrong and would result in a reattempt or full refund & cancellation:
- Seizing (soap on a stick) - after adding the fragrance oil, the soap batter solidifies IMMEDIATELY and is unscoopable and unpourable.
- Lye Heavy - this one is a HAZARD and cannot be sold as is no matter what. Lye heavy soaps can burn the skin and cause severe damage. I've only had this happen to me once when I was a beginner and it was user error (i forgot to add an oil to the batter). THIS IS NOT USEABLE SOAP
- Unmixed Lye - just like the one above, unmixed lye is dangerous. This happens if I just don't mix the soap as much as i should. (has not happened to me, but this is also user error). THIS IS NOT USEABLE SOAP
- Oil Separation - as far as I know, this can happen 2 different ways; there's WAY too much oil in the batter (user error) OR the fragrance oil caused some of the oil to separate from the batter during the curing process. Sometimes the oil can reabsorb back into the soap and still be soap. Sometimes it stays separated and it does not turn into soap.
- Fragrance Separation - like above, the fragrance just doesn't incorporate itself into the rest of the batter during curing like it should. It's not common but it can happen.
- Fragrance "Ricing" - ricing is when the fragrance curdles when poured into the soap batter. Depending on the severity of the ricing, it's workable. It can be forced into submission by aggressively blending it into the batter, this can ruin the design idea some because more blending = thicker batter. But, sometimes, the ricing is so bad that it will cause the batter to seize (see the first bullet point).
- Soap Volcano - ...sometimes.. fragrance make soap go boom. If the soap batter gets too hot while in the mold, the soap can literally cook itself and it'll erupt like a volcano... its still soap but... it completely destroys the design. Ik i said cosmetic issues doesn't warrant a reattempt or cancellation but... that's hideous and its not my fault that it happened. I soap at room temperature, around 76 degrees F, so there's no way a soap volcano would be my fault lol.
If the soap fails the quality tests, I will give a couple options.
- A full refund & order cancellation
OR
- A steep discount for our shop to use on your next order in exchange for your patience while I attempt a second batch that has been tweaked to fix whatever was wrong with the first batch.
What I WILL NOT refund/reattempt for:
- Colors don't turn out how you thought they would after soap has been delivered
- Fragrance doesn't meet your expectations
- Design does not look exactly like the doodle... I will get it to be as close as I can to my doodle but It's not always a guaranteed. Soap has its own brain sometimes
- Toppers or Embeds "Sweat" - If the toppers or embeds are made from melt & pour soap, there may be some glycerin "sweat" on them. It does not affect the way the soap works, only the appearance.
- "Soda Ash" - this is when the soap has an ashy film on the top or sides of it. this is a cosmetic issue, it does not affect the soap.
